Tourist visa (visa on arrival): Chinese citizen in United States → Nepal
Chinese citizens need a tourist visa for Nepal, granted on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and other designated entry points — and it is gratis (free of charge) for Chinese nationals, for up to 150 days per visa year. Complete the online tourist-visa form up to 15 days before arrival (no fee is charged), or apply fully online in advance. Living in the United States makes no difference to this — the tourist visa is obtained on arrival at Nepal's entry points regardless of where you live, and the online pre-arrival form can be filed from the United States (or anywhere).
Nepal's multiple-entry tourist visa for 15, 30 or 90 days — granted on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and other designated entry points, with an online pre-arrival form (or a full online eVisa/ETA applied for in advance).
- Validity
- 15, 30 or 90 days from the date of entry (multiple entry); a visa issued in advance must be used within 6 months from the date of issue
- Entries
- Multiple entry — all visas issued at entry points are tourist visas with multiple entry facility
- Max stay per visit
- 150 days per visa year (January–December), including extensions (USD 3/day, minimum 15 days)
When to start
Start 0–7 days before your travel date.
Chinese passport holders qualify for Nepal's tourist visa on arrival — outside a short official exclusion list, the Department of Immigration confirms that all other passport holders may obtain a Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and other designated entry points.
Fill in the Arrival Card and the Online Tourist Visa form on the Department of Immigration website before arrival (or at kiosk machines at TIA), then print the barcode submission receipt — it is valid for 15 days. Prefer everything settled in advance? Use the DoI online ETA/eVisa service instead and the approved visa is emailed to you.
Carry a passport valid for at least 6 months at the date of travel, your printed submission receipt with barcode and a recent passport photo.
Chinese nationals are eligible for a gratis (free) tourist visa for up to 150 days per visa year. You must still complete the online application process — no fee is charged upon submission.
Present your online form (submission receipt) and passport at the immigration desk — the immigration officer will process and issue your visa on the spot; the gratis visa involves no payment receipt. All visas issued at entry points are tourist visas with multiple entry facility.

Where you'll apply
No US visa-centre or embassy step — the tourist visa is issued at the immigration desk on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport and other designated entry points, the same for a Chinese national living in the United States as anywhere else. Fill the online pre-arrival tourist-visa form from the United States (up to 15 days before arrival, or at a kiosk at TIA), or use the DoI online ETA service to receive the visa by email in advance.

Gotchas to watch
- Once issued, a visa cannot be withdrawn and visa fees cannot be refunded.
- The online submission receipt (barcode) is valid for only 15 days — do not fill the form earlier than 15 days before arrival.
- Overstaying is fined USD 5/day, and the tourist-visa ceiling is 150 days per visa year (January–December); extensions cost USD 3/day (minimum 15 days).
- If you obtain the visa from a Nepalese Diplomatic Mission in advance instead, you must enter Nepal within six months of the visa issue date.
- The gratis visa is capped at 150 days (≈5 months) per visa year for Chinese nationals — the standard fees apply only if you exceed the gratis provisions.
