Every Kazakhstan visa route, explained

Kazakhstan has a route for every purpose — short visits are visa-free for around 85 nationalities on an ordinary passport (30–90 days depending on the country; India 14 days), nationals of the 109-country list apply online for a single-entry tourist e-Visa on the Visa and Migration Portal (vmp.gov.kz, US$60, invitation-based), and everyone else needs a Kazakh consular visa. Visit & tourism

Visit — visa-free, tourist e-Visa or consular visa (B12/B10)

Short visits for tourism, guest and business purposes. Around 80 nationalities enter visa-free on an ordinary passport (most for 30 calendar days); citizens of the 109 listed states can get a single-entry tourist e-Visa on the official Visa and Migration Portal (a registered invitation is required); everyone else applies at a Kazakh embassy or consulate.

Study

Student visa (C9)

For admission to and study at Kazakh educational organizations (secondary, technical, professional and higher education). C9 visas are issued at the location of the educational institution in which the visa recipient is enrolled.

Work visa (C3–C6)

For foreigners taking up labour activity in Kazakhstan and their family members — generally tied to a Kazakh work permit. A single-entry C3 is issued for up to 90 days; multiple-entry C3 for up to 3 years.

Business visa (B1–B3)

For participants of conferences, symposiums, forums, exhibitions and other events, business meetings and lectures. Citizens of 48 listed economically developed states can obtain B1/B3 (and B10/B12) single-entry visas without an invitation from the Kazakh side.
