Japanese citizens living in the United States can visit Taiwan visa-free for up to 90 days — no visa needed; a passport valid for the intended period of stay is enough, plus a confirmed onward ticket and the online arrival card. The process is identical whether you travel from the US or anywhere else.

When to start

Complete the National Immigration Agency's online immigration arrival card at twac.immigration.gov.tw within seven days before you arrive in Taiwan.
You receive your visa-exempt entry at the border. The duration of stay starts from the day after arrival and is not extendable; you must depart by the end of it. Immigration officers at the port of entry make the final decision.

Gotchas to watch
