Taiwan is on Canada's eTA-required countries list, so you don't need a visitor visa to fly to Canada — but only if your ordinary passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan includes your personal identification number. Taiwan passport holders without a personal identification number need a visitor visa instead.
Apply only on the official Government of Canada website. The form takes a few minutes: you need your passport, a credit card and an email address, and you answer a few questions. The fee is CAD $7 and you can only apply and pay for one person at a time.
Most applicants get their eTA approval by email within minutes, but some requests can take several days if you're asked to submit supporting documents — so it is best to get your eTA before you book your flight.
Your eTA is electronically linked to your passport and is valid for up to five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. While it is valid you can travel to Canada as often as you want for short stays, normally up to six months at a time.
At check-in, present the passport you used to apply — airline staff scan it to confirm you have a valid eTA. An eTA doesn't guarantee entry: on arrival a border services officer will ask to see your passport and other documents, and you must convince the officer you are eligible for entry into Canada.

知っておくと便利
- An eTA doesn't guarantee entry to Canada — on arrival you must convince the border services officer that you are eligible for entry.
- The eTA eligibility applies only to an ordinary passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan that includes the personal identification number — other Taiwan passport holders need a visitor visa.
- The eTA is linked to the passport you applied with: if you get a new passport, you need to get a new eTA, and you must present that same passport at flight check-in.
- Entering the wrong passport number on the eTA form causes problems flying to Canada — use the number at the top of your passport information page and check it matches your approval email.
- The eTA is only required to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport — arriving by car, bus, train or boat (including a cruise ship) you don't need an eTA, but you still need a valid passport.
- Apply only on the official Government of Canada website — the official fee is CAD $7.
